STORY
Chicago Blue is Chicago, built from Charlotte's own photographs of the Chicago River, the Riverwalk and Oak Street Beach on Lake Michigan, taken over a few days in the city.
Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte composites many of her own frames into one image, the way a film editor assembles a scene from many takes. Here the beach is laid over the river. The sand runs into the green water under the bridges.
Three children are digging under an umbrella. Charlotte photographed them on the beach. In the artwork they stand in the river, at the foot of the towers, the sharpest people in the frame.
Seen from a boat, the Dearborn Street bridge crosses the frame with its yellow sign and people walking over it. Marina City rises with its round balconies. The skyline holds Mather Tower, the gold top of the Carbide & Carbon Building, and the LondonHouse letters on the London Guarantee Building.
The Riverwalk comes twice. By day, people sit along its steps. At night, its windows and street lamps are lit, and their lights land on the water as gold sparks across the lower half of the artwork.
The layering turned it blue, the color of a city with a lake on one side and a river through the middle.
This work is part of The Breathe Series, Charlotte Fonne's landscapes and cityscapes, where a place is felt with all its hours and even days together.
Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
