The Dream Series is the quietest of Charlotte Fonne's work: the California desert, the Dead Sea, the Judaean Desert, places with almost nothing in them.
Here the layering reduces. She stays in one place and photographs it as time passes, then layers those moments into one. The landscape softens into bands of color and tone, lines and gradients that hold it by its mood, not its detail. At the Salton Sea, everything in the frame came from 1 hour on the shore.
The work moves toward abstraction. What is left is light and horizon.
The series offers the viewer a place to slow down, with less in it than the eye expects.
