The Broken Series is Charlotte Fonne's tribute to the Cubist painters of the early 1900s, built from the monuments people travel to see, from Venice to Rio.
She photographs each one from many angles, close and far, then layers those views onto one surface. The architecture keeps its depth. Nothing is taken apart. No one sees a monument in a single look. The work holds the circling rather than the view.
Broken is a title, not a method. What looks broken is a landmark seen more than once at the same time.
The series asks the viewer to see a place they know from every angle at once.
