STORY

The Breakwater is an Art Deco hotel on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, built from Charlotte's own photographs of the hotel and its surroundings.

Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte layers many of her own frames over the facade, kept straight and square, the way a film editor holds one shot and cuts the life of a scene around it.

The ocean rises behind the building, sailboats on the horizon, and its waves cross the windows. Palm leaves reach out from the center to the edges of the frame.

Below, blue and white striped beach umbrellas spread over the café, and people rest on white loungers on the beach.

A breakwater is built to stop the waves. On this one, they run right over it.

This work is part of The Structural Series, Charlotte Fonne's Miami Art Deco hotels, where each facade stands still while the life of South Beach drifts around it. On Ocean Drive, when you face a hotel, the beach is behind you. Here you see both. It is curated by Lumas and represented across their nineteen international locations.

Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Series Details

The Structural Series is Charlotte Fonne's tribute to the Art Deco hotels of Ocean Drive. The style began in 1920s Paris, where her eye was formed, and Miami Beach holds its largest concentration. She has lived a few blocks from these hotels since 2012.

Every piece centers on one hotel. She builds it from many of her own photographs and keeps the facade exact. Around it and over it, she layers the life of South Beach: palm trees, umbrellas, people on the sand, the light on the water.

Shipping

Your order is made to order, so timing depends on the piece. Mounted and framed pieces typically arrive within 2 to 3 weeks, including production and delivery. Print-only orders ship faster, usually within about a week. Once your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking number.

Return & Exchange

Each piece is made to order. In the rare event your artwork arrives defective or damaged, I will replace it once you send photographic evidence of the issue to charlotte@charlottefonne.com.

Because every piece is custom-made once ordered, I cannot offer refunds for a change of mind after an order is placed. My e-gift cards do not expire and are non-refundable once purchased.
