STORY
Pink Atacama is Chile's Atacama Desert at its quietest, built from Charlotte's own photographs of its lagoons, salt flats, and volcanoes.
Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte composites many of her own frames into one image, the way a film editor assembles a scene from many takes. The artwork is built in horizontal bands. Sky, then volcanoes under snow, then a strip of gold laid across the desert floor, then the blue to purple water of the lagoon, then the salt crust of Tebinquinche, then ground the color of rust and mauve. Nothing in the frame rises above the layering.
The color is the reason for the name. Pink runs beneath the peaks and through the ground, with mauve and gold under an azure sky, the whole palette lifted pale and held there.
The flamingos come from different photographs, taken on different days at Chaxa and the lagoons around it. They were never together. Human figures stand among the birds, translucent, walking or floating in the mineral rich water of Laguna Piedra. Steam drifts through the middle, carried in from El Tatio, the only thing moving.
The layers hold an impression, not a record. This is not the desert as it was photographed. It is the Atacama as it settles, once you have stopped moving through it.

Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

I'm Charlotte,
a French-American artist, photographer, and traveler based in Miami. Inspired by art history and my travels, I build each artwork by layering many of my own photographs into a single image. What I keep is not how a place looked, but how I remember it.
