STORY
Girl in Manhattan is a portrait of a woman in New York, built from Charlotte's own photographs of her and of the city, taken over a few days they spent there together.
Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte composites many of her own frames into one image, the way a film editor assembles a scene from many takes. The photograph of the woman is black and white. Every other layer is in color, so none of the color in this artwork is hers. The red through her hair comes off an American flag hanging outside Radio City Music Hall.
She is lying on a pool table. The corner of it and one of its pockets are still in the frame.
Below her is Manhattan at night from high up, an avenue full of traffic running down the middle.
One World Trade Center stands at the upper right with its spire. The Radio City name comes twice, in red, high on the right and again along the bottom. The letters have gone to outline, with everything behind them showing through.
The city is on her as well as under her. Lit windows run across the white shirt and down her leg. A whole facade of them stands on the left, and there are rooms inside, a lamp, a table, the edge of somebody's evening. You have to get close to see any of it.
She was in an apartment. No photograph here holds a woman looking out over New York. Layered together they do.

Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
