STORY
Cristo Redentor is Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, built from Charlotte's own photographs of the statue.
Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte moves around the monument and layers views from many angles onto one surface, the way a film editor builds one scene from cameras placed on every side. Here she photographed it from the front, from both sides and from behind.
The artwork is built around one straight view at the center. It is the smallest figure and the sharpest, facing forward, with the heart visible on its chest.
Around it, the other views are larger. Three faces show in the frame. The arms appear five times, each pointing a different way. The backs of the arms and hands are the ones you notice last.
At the lower right, the rear of the pedestal sits right beside the front of the statue, so both sides show at once.
The statue is Art Deco, like the Ocean Drive hotels in Charlotte's Structural Series. It stands 98 feet tall, and its arms reach 92 feet across.
It was made to open its arms over one city. Here they open in every direction.
This work is part of The Broken Series, Charlotte Fonne's tribute to the Cubist painters, where the world's iconic monuments are circled and gathered onto a single surface.
Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
