STORY
Blue Salton Sea is California's Salton Sea, built from Charlotte's own photographs, all taken there within 1 hour.
Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte composites many of her own frames into one image, the way a film editor assembles a scene from many takes. In the sky, small clouds from one frame meet long ones from another. Below them, the mountains across the water repeat, one range behind another, and the top one is so pale it almost turns to cloud.
She went there on a drive to discover California, because of the resorts abandoned along its shore. Yet there are no buildings and no people in the frame.
Charlotte remembers the light that day, and a fog on top of the lake that looked unreal. In the artwork it sits in a band on the water, and a line of light runs through it.
On the right, a group of palms stands at the shore. Everything else runs side to side. They are the only tall shapes, and you can see through them.
The lake itself is an accident. In 1905 the Colorado River broke through an irrigation canal and flooded this desert basin for almost 2 years.
What the artwork keeps is 1 hour of fog and light on a lake that was never meant to be there.
This work is part of The Dream Series, Charlotte Fonne's abstract landscapes, a place to slow down.
Each image in the composition is personally photographed by Charlotte, ensuring a genuine and unique piece. Signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
