STORY

Afternoon Walk at Lake Annecy is a summer afternoon on the lake in Annecy, France, built from Charlotte's own photographs of the water, the promenade and the mountains above them.

Using her signature multi layer photographic technique, Charlotte composites many of her own frames into one image, the way a film editor assembles a scene from many takes. The layering does two different things here. At the top the photographs sit almost on top of each other, so the ridges hold their line and the far end of the lake stays almost clear. Down at the promenade they come apart. Walkers stand inside other walkers, a paddle boat sits inside another paddle boat, orange boats run through the boards of the dock.

The water is turquoise near the shore and goes blue green further out.

Everyone here is doing nothing in particular. Walking, sitting, biking, working, waiting for a boat. A family shares a rented boat at the lower right, three of them in orange life jackets.

Low in the water there is lettering off the side of a boat. Annecy-le-Vieux, the part of town Charlotte's family is from. It is the smallest thing in the artwork and most people will pass over it.

The impression is what the layers keep. Not the afternoon as it was photographed, but the way a place you keep going back to holds together.

Series Details

The Breathe Series is where Charlotte Fonne's layering began. It explores the space where reality merges with the echoes of memories, where the essence of a place is captured not in a single photograph, but through the layering of multiple images.

The work began with an Impressionist impulse. Each layer serves as a translucent memory, and together they soften into a single painterly whole: the color palette shifts, light and shadow diffuse, and the line between what was seen and what was remembered blurs.

Shipping

Your order is made to order, so timing depends on the piece. Mounted and framed pieces typically arrive within 2 to 3 weeks, including production and delivery. Print-only orders ship faster, usually within about a week. Once your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking number.

Return & Exchange

Each piece is made to order. In the rare event your artwork arrives defective or damaged, I will replace it once you send photographic evidence of the issue to charlotte@charlottefonne.com.

Because every piece is custom-made once ordered, I cannot offer refunds for a change of mind after an order is placed. My e-gift cards do not expire and are non-refundable once purchased.
