The layers are not a background. The temple doorway is on her face and across both shoulders, orange and green with its rows of white discs. Prayer script runs the whole height of the artwork, clearest on her face, then over her clothes and down to the bottom edge. Mountains with snow sit above her head.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShe was six, maybe seven. She and Charlotte had no language in common, and she walked with her anyway, and showed her the temple she passes every day. The monks were singing inside it. The mountains had been there her whole life. Charlotte photographed all of it after, and put it back into her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe layers cross her eyes too. They come through anyway. Her head is tilted back a little, looking up at Charlotte.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShe showed where she came from.
